Recently I was going through different “news” websites looking for good click-bait stories to cover, report on or mock for my podcast “Libertarian Podcast Review.”
For some context, I’m doing this on Thanksgiving Day (11/24/22) before we head over to my sister’s house to eat and watch football.
While scanning “The Daily Wire” I came across a story that caught my eye because it was about Comedian Dave Smith and Joe Rogan. It caught my eye because Dave’s podcast “Part of the Problem” has only released one episode this week and I was wondering if he was out of town. “hey, maybe Dave’s been on Rogan again.”
The Daily Wire website is presumably run by conservative Ben Shapiro and Jeremy Boring, at least they are the public faces of it. The Daily Wire has increased in traffic and prominence of the past 5 years. They have a subscription plan and were once rumored to being purchased by The Blaze, who has a very similar business model. The Daily Wire stepped up and moved their operations out of California last year and also filed suit against the Biden Administration as part of the vaccine mandate via OSHA, which was overturned by SCOTUS.
The article in question on The Daily Wire is titled “Comedian Dave Smith, Joe Rogan On Wokeness: It’s A ‘Perfect Distraction’ For Society That’s Crumbling” and was posted just two days ago on 11/23/22. The first paragraph of the story even states the conversation was “this week.”
Looking at the story there wasn’t a mention of the show episode number or what else was discussed on the show. Further, looking at Spotify (where Joe’s shows are exclusively found) no recent episode with Dave Smith was evident.
However, at the bottom of the article was a link to the YouTube segment and so I clicked and followed to check it out. The segment was posted to YouTube just days ago (11/21/22) but showed the episode number as #1775. It’s an old segment. In fact, it’ll be a year old in February 2023.
What’s the point Tyler? Nothing really, other than this is really lazy journalism. It’s timely due to the timeline we live in and the recent shirts found by Elon Must at the Twitter headquarters. But mostly, it’s just a result of The Daily Wire doing whatever left-wing journalism does by posting what others are saying about a story from Twitter and acting like it’s reporting.
In my recent interview with John Ziegler, he points out the ills of the left and right media and explores this much deeper on his podcast “The Death of Journalism.” Just because your side has a news outlet, don’t think that gives them an unobstructed pathway to being lazy.
